Chatham Town dominated for the first half hour, but their wretched home form continued as Walton Casuals eventually ran out 4-1 winners.
On a foggy afternoon, Chatham were soon on top. Only two minutes had gone when Luke Medley saw his close range shot saved by Casuals keeper Gerrar, and within ten minutes Austin Edwards too had seen an effort well saved.
It was no surprise when Medley did put Chatham ahead after 16 minutes. His precisely hit shot along the ground was well taken from 15 yards out, although it seemed to go straight through Gerrar who will feel that he should have done better.
Casuals had a shot from distance well saved by Alex Hyde on 25, but Chatham were soon back on top. Garrar spilled a Ricky Freeman free kick on 36, but was able to re-gather the ball before Chatham could capitalise. Hyde made another good save seconds before half time, but as the ball went away towards the corner a Casuals player made a dreadful tackle and was lucky to see only the yellow card. An exchange of unpleasantness followed which saw further cards issued to both teams.
Six minutes into the second half, Medley showed all his skills inside the penalty area but his eventual shot was saved. Five minutes later Garrar again dropped a Medley shot but was able to recover the ball, but then Walton Casuals moved up a gear.
Veteran striker Roscoe D’Sane equalised for them on 64 with a precisely placed lob over Hyde’s head. Six minutes later, Odunaike put them ahead when he found a path through a crowded penalty area, and you could see the Chatham heads drop. Holness increased the Casuals’ lead ten minutes from time, but the next few minutes belonged to Chatham when first Hyde made an excellent save from D’Sane and then a perfect cross from Enoch Adeji enabled Freeman to shoot, but his effort was saved.
Holness wrapped the game up for Casuals four minutes from time, but then the game turned nasty again. Another bad tackle led to a scuffle, and Casuals’ Paul was shown a red card right as his manager was trying desperately to have him substituted, while Freeman for Chatham saw a second yellow during the same incident.
This is the second time in nine months that Walton Casuals have brought an overphysical approach to Maidstone Road, but even so they take the points back to Surrey.
