Match Report

Referee: Mr M Ryan     Attendance: 120.

Austin Edwards’ goal meant that Chatham Town led at half time, but Sittingbourne scored twice in the second half to take the points in Saturday’s local derby.

New signing Fred Obasa – who played for Sittingbourne earlier in the season – passed to Ricky Gundry to set up Chatham’s first chance after just four minutes.  The shot was saved by Adam Molloy, the Sittingbourne goalkeeeper who began his career at Chatham. The roles were reversed fifteen minutes in when a Gundry pass enabled Obasa to shoot, but this time the shot went narrowly wide. Corey Holder’s header from a corner was saved on 26 and so was another Gundry shot two minutes later, but with 31 minutes played Chatham took the lead.  Gundry’s inch perfect cross from the left found Austin Edwards, who placed it into the net from eight yards out.

Jack Bradshaw – back in the Chatham goal after more than a year out through injury – had little to do in a half which Chatham dominated, but in the dying seconds of the half he saved a fiercely hit Kedze shot to ensure that Chatham stayed in front.

Chatham had dominated the first half, but Sittingbourne dominated the first half hour of the second.  Obasa and McCann both went close in the opening minutes of the half, but otherwise Sittingbourne looked the team more likely to score.  They equalised on the hour through Cornwell’s well taken shot from the edge of the area, and within the the next ten minutes Jack Bradshaw was twice forced into good saves to prevent Sittingbourne taking the lead.  They did take the lead on 73 though, when Richardson poked home from inches out at the end of a lengthly goalmouth melee.

The final fifteen minutes saw Chatham take control once again. Gundry’s cross gave Jack Sullivan a shooting chance but he was tackled and lost the ball, while Molloy was forced to palm away Kieron McCann’s shot two minutes later.  Molloy dropped a Chatham corner which led to Chatham having their own goalmouth melee on 88, but Sittingbourne were able to clear the ball for a corner. Another corner deep into added time saw a Chatham header cleared off the line, but the final whistle saw Sittingbourne once again take the points from a fixture which Chatham win all too rarely
