In Matt Solly’s last game as acting manager before Kevin Horlock takes over next week, Chatham Town had a good first half but fell away to a 2-1 defeat at home to Corinthian-Casuals.

Both teams made enterprising starts.  For Chatham, Richard Davies had a shot saved after just four minutes and Kieron McCann had a chance following a free kick.  Casuals though who took the lead with 18 minutes played though, when a long ball down field broke to Akokhia who took his chance well.

Casuals had a good chance to increase their lead within five minutes, but after that chance was missed it was mostly Chatham for the rest of the half.  Austin Edwards did well to win a corner on 24, and two minutes later Chatham were level.  An Andy Dalhouse cross was dropped by Casuals keeper Bracken – and despite his claims, he was not fouled and no one was offside – and landed at the feet of McCann who scored from six yards out.

On the half hour, a long ball from Chatham should have been easily cleared by the Casuals defence, but the defender completely missed it and it presented Dalhouse with an excellent chance.  Unfortunately, he was adjudged offside.  Five minutes later McCann beat the same defender, who did not have a happy afternoon, to a crossfield ball and played it inside to Charles Ofosu-Hene, but his shot was mishit and went well wide.  Casuals hit the post moments before half time though, so Chatham could certainly not be complacent.

There were fewer chances in the second half than there had been in the first, and much of the half was played in the middle third.  A superb run from McCann midway through the half saw him pick up the ball on half way and beat two men to set up a shooting chance, but his shot was well saved.  Five minutes later McCann played an aerial ball towards George Humber, but he was just beaten to it by the goalkeeper.  Joe Bingham and Joe Loft both had chances too, but neither shot on target.

Seven minutes from time, a Casuals attack led to a shot which was cleared off the line by Richard Davies for a corner.  From that corner, Akokhia headed his second goal of the game, and it proved to be the winner.
