Two Ade Yusuff penalties were enough to give Chatham Town a win against Burnham Ramblers today. This was their fifth straight victory, and the first time they have won five in a row since March 2009.

Chatham might have had a penalty after just two minutes, but were awarded only a corner by referee Mr Ions. By the time the game was fifteen minutes old they could easily have been three up, but the chances went begging. There was a controversial incident on 23 when Ramblers goalkeeper Louis Green – once a Chatham player – appeared to grab hold of Ade Yusuff, and Chatham appealed for a penalty but Mr Ions decided that no foul had been committed.

Jack Bradshaw in the Chatham goal was a virtual spectator for most of the first half, and at one point did not touch the ball for 28 minutes. But although Chatham had made all of the running, they had nothing to show for it and the game was goalless at half time.

Five minutes into the second half though, Chatham did finally take the lead. Ade Yusuff was dribbling through the Ramblers area when he was brought down, and the referee had no hesitation in awarding a penalty. Yusuff took the penalty himself and gave Green no chance.

A Yusuff shot from distance on the hour went over the bar, while an Austin Gacheru shot two minutes later was well saved by Green. That led to a corner from which Matt Solly hit the post. With 67 minutes played, Kieran McCann got on the end of a long ball forward and was brought down on the left side of the area. Again the referee awarded a penalty, and Yusuff chose practically the same spot and scored again.

A Lee Hales free kick on 71 was well saved, but then Burnham Ramblers began to threaten in attack for the first time in the game. Bradshaw was called upon to make a couple of good saves, and Chatham made heavy weather of clearing the ball once or twice. But as time ran out it was Chatham once again who looked the more likely to score, and a Hales shot was well saved on the stroke of 90 minutes.
