A sparkling performance saw Chatham Town beat Redbridge 4-1.  The game was also notable for Corey Holder’s return to action after the serious injury he suffered at Romford.

Chatham looked the better side right from the kickoff, and Kieran McCann had the first shot on target when he forced a corner after 11 minutes.  Nothing came of that corner, but Chatham took the lead on 19 after a period of pressure in the Redbridge box led to the ball being laid back to Ade Yusuff.  Yusuff put the ball in the net from ten yards out, his second goal in two games for Chatham.  Chatham seemed to be completely in control, and it was something of a surprise when Redbridge equalised with 26 minutes played.  But a corner was not fully cleared by the Chatham defence, which enabled Daniel Charge to put his team level.

Minutes later, a good run by Yusuff saw him take the ball from the halfway line into the area.  He lost possession in the area, and in attempting to regain it tackled a Redbridge defender and landed awkwardly.  The referee called first for a stretcher and then suggested that an ambulance be called, but neither was needed.  In fact, Yusuff had dislocated his shoulder, but was able to put it back into place himself and carry on with the game.

Chatham went back into the lead after 41 minutes.  A Matt Solly free kick was headed clear by a defender, but only as far as Alfie May who volleyed it into the net.  The same player hit the post on the stroke of half time, while Redbridge saw a shot go just over the bar.

For the first ten minutes of the second half it was Redbridge who dominated.  They won two corners in quick succession, and from one of them shot narrowly wide while the other led to a good save from Lee Kidman to keep Chatham ahead.

Chatham extended their lead on 57 when good work by Yusuff saw the ball passed to Alfie May wide on the right.  May shot and scored from a narrow angle.  Six minutes later, it needed a good save from Redbridge goalkeeper McCartney to keep out a shot from Yusuff at close range, but from the resulting corner Brad Potter headed home and Chatham were 4-1 up.  Chatham could easily have scored more goals, but a good save from a James Alderman shot, a slightly fortunate save from Austin Gacheru, and a few misplaced shots meant that they had to settle for four.

With one minute of normal time remaining, Alfie May was substituted.  Warm applause for him, and even warmer applause for his replacement Corey Holder, back on the pitch just 52 days after suffering the serious injury which led to him undergoing emergency surgery to remove his spleen.
