Chatham Town dominated for three quarters of today’s game against Wroxham, but a late equaliser meant that they had to settle for a rather frustrating 1-1 draw.Lee Kidman deputised for the injured Jack Bradshaw in goal, while James Alderman replaced Luke May who was serving a one match suspension.  A Lee Hales free kick went inches over the bar with just four minutes played, and Austin Gacheru had a shot saved three minutes later.  Wroxham had hardly had a touch by that stage, although right back Marsden did flash a shot across goal and went on to hit the post on 18. Chatham continued to pass the ball well though, and several good moves ended only when the ball was lost close to goal, while Wroxham’s young goalkeeper Tibbles produced a number of good saves.  Chatham eventually took a deserved lead a minute before half time, through Austin Gacheru’s diving header from an Alfie May cross.

The second half began just like the first, with Chatham in complete control.  Gacheru shot wide after a run which saw him beat three Wroxham players inside the box, while Wroxham were again slow to settle at the beginning of the half.  Chatham did have the ball in the net on 64 but the goal was disallowed, and then twice in a minute Tibbles did well to keep a shot out but could only deflect the ball to a Chatham player who failed to capitalise.

As the game moved into the final quarter though, Wroxham finally began to put together some passing moves of their own.  With fifteen minutes to play they missed badly, firing over the bar with Lee Kidman beaten.  That reinforced the feeling that Chatham needed another goal to be sure of three points, and a good chance came when they won a free kick just outside the area on 83. Brad Potter’s header went over the bar though, and so still Chatham had just a one goal lead.

Wroxham duly equalised with two minutes of normal time to play.  The goal was well taken by Marsden, easily the pick of Wroxham’s outfield players, but the visitors from Norfolk would have to consider that they were lucky to be level. Chatham tried hard for a late winner and Alfie May shot across the face of goal deep into added time, but it was not to be as the game ended as a draw.
