The scoreline suggests that Chatham were well beaten by Heybridge Swift, but in fact it was much closer then that for 90 minutes.

The visitors scored twice in injury time, even though they had seen little of the ball for the rest of the second half.

Andy Constable put Chatham in the lead after just 90 seconds with an excellent volley from close to the penalty spot.

But Heybridge forced Jack Bradshaw to tip the ball away for a corner three minutes later, and then equalised after eight minutes when a shot was cleared only as far as Russell Malton who was left with a simple task to score.

Lee Hales had a shot well saved after 11 minutes, but there were fewer chances on goal for the rest of the first half. Luke Callander put Heybridge in the lead from close range after 38 minutes, and so Heybridge had a 2-1 lead at half time.

Chatham came right back at Heybridge in the opening minutes of the second half, and continued to dominate practically throughout the half.

Time and again they got into the penalty area, but shots on the goal were few. Alfie May shot across the face of goal on 75 minutes, and failed by inches to get on the end of an Austin Gacheru cross a minute later, but the closer to an equaliser came when Heybridge Keeper Eyre did well to prevent a wayward back pass from going into his own net.

The danger that Heybridge might snatch a goal on the break was always there though, and they did that on the stroke of time when Callander scored from close range after a solo run.

Michael Cheek added a fourth three minutes later, and so Heybridge recorded a 4-1 scoreline which rather flattered them.
